Alright well I’ve been talking about this for quite some time, but I’ve finally decided what I want to do with the kitchen. Now, mind you, I’m not going to be putting this plan into place until I’ve actually paid off my loans and crap.. but after looking at a lot of kitchens and getting some likes/dislikes.. I’ve decided upon my game plan.
First it will consist of new flooring. This has been something open for suggestion with me.. I’ve heard to not put down hardwood.. which is fine since I wasn’t planning on it.. and I don’t want vinyl or linoleum flooring either.. (I hate it).. so I was thinking of going with tile. However my father has told me not to do tile since there is no give to it, and it’s cold. Enter the ‘click’ tile or easy-click solution which looks just like tile, but is actually wood I believe. However it’s coated with a vinyl layer or something that makes it look identical to tile.. without the coldness and with a little give. I think I’ll be going this route.. but not sure yet.
I want to add an island into my kitchen. This is critical to me, I want to have a spot for 2 chairs only, somewhere I can eat quickly and have cereal, etc.. in the mornings. My neighbor told me to have ‘drawers’ in the island, as they are so much easier to get things in and out of.. and I completely agree.. however that would also sort of mean that I would have to have it stationary as you’d need something to offset the weight of the pans, etc when the drawers were completely pulled out.. at least I would think. Still up in the air about that part..
I am going to paint, and likely re-stain the cupboards.. this will give the kitchen a whole new look. I also want to add back splashes and my girlfriends mom put in cool metal tiles on the back splash which really made a difference I think. I may do that as well.
One thing I’m going to avoid is buying a new set of appliances! It seems that whomever I talk to, they say that when you re-do the kitchen.. you need all new appliances as well.. fridge, stove, dishwasher, etc.. SCREW THAT! I love my fridge.. my stove works fine and I think I’m going to be replacing the dishwasher sooner than later anyhow!
Like I say, it’s down the road.. but by me putting writing it down.. well, maybe it helps me remember why I’m trying to get my bills cut down.
