Anyone that’s ever done a comparison shop on a new TV or a new computer knows that if you look hard enough online, you can usually find a better bargain out there, however if you are one of those ‘impulse buyers’ like I am was, then to go to Future Shop and pick it up seems WAY easier and I’ll pay a small premium for the privilege of doing this.
That said.. besides the ‘extended warranty’ that Future Shop offers, the markup on cables and accessories are absolutely criminal in these places… here is my latest example.
Went to Radio Shack the Source the other day to get a 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable to plug in my blackberry or mp3 player to my car’s aux port. I had one before but lately it’s starting to crackle and the quality really sucks, so I wanted to replace it. Found one after a little searching for the unreasonable price of $16.99.I decided I wanted it right then and now (hello impulse) and had it in my hand and was heading to the cash to pay for it.. then I realized.. “this stupid cable is worth more than the mp3 player I bought?!?” I put it back as I knew that cables can be bought online for much cheaper on Ebay if you are willing to wait a few days or a week or so.
Today I decided to purchase the cable online on Ebay and I’m pleased to report that I am going to pay the princely sum of $1.58 delivered to my door. How ridiculous is that? That is a markup of almost 1000%! Imagine if any of us found a stock that paid that?!?
Hmm.. my little $1000 investment would be worth $11000! Sweet!!
Anyhow.. never buy cables from Future Shop or the Source.. end of story.

Another good site for cables, is monoprice.com. I bought 3 25FT HDMI cables and 25 FT svideo, and RCA cables for an in-wall installation.
Totally agree! I've purchased HDMI cables from them as well, especially when they post up free shipping specials
Nothing like free shipping on an .80 cable.. heh.
Good Point
I purchased a 2.5″ hard drive enclosure at FS for 58.99 + taxes , found the same one online ( ebay ) for 7.99 , I promptly returned Future Shops …
But , Check the FS web Site first …… I needed a new HDMI cable for the PS3 ( darn cat ) on the FS website the had the PS3 recommended cable on sale for 19.99 , down from 49.99 , checked the store stock and it was supposed to be available in Ch'town … went to the store , none there at 19.99 – Finally found a service guy , had him check the web site and compare part numbers and Low and Behold , the local store hadnt adjusted the price .. they gave it to me for the 19.99
I still think you way overpaid for a cable
But imagine if you paid full price?! jaysus!!

Just bought a HDMI cable at Cash Converters for $8.93,,, works great,, Future Shop wanted $60 buck for a Monster HDMI cable. But I did spent $1567.00 at Future Shop for my sons PC last week, which I did run my own setup and burned my own back up. I did buy the extended warranty,
