So Starbucks is officially coming to Charlottetown… I’m sure as some people are die-hard Starbucks fans, they will venture in to take in some of their coffees from the original store instead of the few spots you could get Starbucks coffee from (like Mavors I believe in the Confederation Court Mall).
I however, will not be caught dead in Starbucks. I don’t believe in a $3.00 morning coffee.. hell, I barely believe in a $1.64 morning coffee! (Now I bring my own with my French Press and LOVE it!). You know, it’s not only the expensive coffee that bugs me about Starbucks, it’s how MANY god damn coffee shops there are in about a 2 block radius!
- Robins
- Tim Hortons
- Timothys
- Great Canadian Bagel
- Creme Coffee
- Beanz
- Leonhards Bakery
- Cafe Diem
- STARBUCKS!
And I’m sure there are more! I mean come on!! Do we not have any other potentially profitable businesses that could grace the downtown core? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like shopping downtown that much due to the fact that no real businesses tend to open up due to lack of parking and ease of use, but hopefully with the new Hotel downtown there will be some better businesses heading there. I do think that there is room in the Confed Mall for a better ‘grocery store’, or something like a Clover Farm which I realize is just a short walk further downtown, however it’s a little too far to grab a nice healthy snack or something you perhaps need at home for the evening while on your morning break.
Ok, got a little off topic there, but it’s no secret how profitable coffee shops are.. all I have to do is look at Danny Murphy’s Bus (that he uses as a daily drive) and venture out to his massive house out in Stanhope to know there’s money in it (yes yes.. I know his wife has more money than him.. but still.. look at Ron Joyce then
).
Starbucks! You’re dead to me.. I seriously hope you fail in Charlottetown. By the way, to anyone who reads this.. if you want an unbelievable breakfast bagel.. go to Timothy’s.. much better than any Tim Hortons, or even the Great Canadian Bagel ones which I’m a huge fan of.
Ok Rant Over.
