GAH! What's that white stuff???
Well, unfortunately it’s the time of year again when everyone is locking up their patio furniture and ridding their yards of leaves and all things summer. Kind of sucks really, I’ve always said that I don’t mind winter up until after Christmas.. and I still stand by that statement. Really.. what good is snow? What does it ACTUALLY do which is so useful? Don’t get me wrong, being a photographer I definitely see the beauty in it, and there are LOTS of great opportunity to get photos with snow.. but does it really provide any sort of useful “mother-naturely” type of thing? I THINK NOT!
So a few weeks ago I performed the only type of fall protection I could think of for the new plants and trees I planted this year. I put big burlap bags around them. I remember a few years ago, I put on some sort of winter or fall seed on my lawn and I do remember the next year having a really great year of grass, but I didn’t do that this year.
I guess I’m just curious as to what everyone does around here if anything to protect their gardens. I was just about to type investments instead of gardens, and I don’t particularly think that’s wrong. If you think about it, you put a lot of money (sometimes) into your garden and you hope that you get some sort of return from it. Whether it be from just having a beautifully landscaped front lawn, or vegetables saving you money in container pots, perhaps you put $500 worth of landscaping in and expect it to boost your homes value by $2000? I’m getting off topic here, but I really want to know what sort of preparation people do for the winter.
