I Have Felt The Pain Of The Hospital Waiting Room

image So among going to Cirque Du Soleil last Sunday – I also partook in a little bit of my own Canada Day festivities on Saturday last… a round of Golf at Belvedere Golf and Country Club followed by a great BBQ and some beers at my buddy’s place. Unfortunately for me, it also consisted of a little bit of cards.. to which I continued my horrible run of bad luck. I won’t go into the details of the incident.. however I will say that after a particularly bad hand of cards, I decided to let out my frustrations by throwing an empty can out into the back yard .. seemed harmless enough..

Wrong.

Just as quickly as it left my hand, I realized that I had cut my finger.. pretty badly. One of my buddies that was there was ironically a doctor (not practicing on the Island otherwise I’d hit him up to be mine!) – but he took a look and said I better head to the Hospital… super.

So I call up Liz and off to the Hospital I go… she meets me there, at this particular point in time it’s about 1:30 – 1:45 AM. I register myself and tell the lady that I’m bleeding, blah blah blah..

Looking around the emergency waiting room, I noticed a few other people.. maybe 5 in total. I told Liz that hopefully we’ll be in an out fairly quickly. Fat chance. We finally were admitted through the doors at around 3:30…that sucked.. but then we waited another hour in there waiting for someone to come in and say hello. Finally the doc came in around 4:15 AM and told me.. “not much we can do with that, keep it wrapped.. want a tetanus shot?”.

“YES! I DO WANT A TETNUS SHOT!”.. ok, I really didn’t scream or anything and in fact the Doc was very nice – it’s just that I really could have went home and did all of this hours ago. I guess I’m lucky seeing that this was my first experience like this, but man.. does it ever suck. I felt like I should definitely get something out of waiting for almost 4 hours… so I stole a bunch of rubber gloves to protect my hand, got a finger sling and a tetanus… yay me?

After I received my tetanus shot, I told him that I was working on getting a doctor but didn’t have one just yet. Of course like all Docs in the QEH he knew my mother and started asking me about where she was working, etc..(actually there’s another good “Lenny goes to the Hospital” story I’ll maybe tell some other time).. anyhow, he advised we stick around for a little while to see if there was any reaction to the tetanus and I was not in the mood to do that, so we went home and to bed. From now on before I go to the Hospital I’m going to look up my injury on the Internet (after all you can get everything from prescription information to nuphedragen reviews on the ‘net) and hopefully it’ll save me the trouble of going to the Hospital needlessly.

You know, I think that’s the biggest piss off of the entire debacle… I didn’t need to go in the first place.
