Renovations Question – Garage Or Sun Room?

I figure this may be something that I’m able to get some opinions on out there. And firstly, I am in no way shape or fashion in a position to be doing any renovations to my home in the next little while, but I do have a question on what would make more sense, and if that really matters.

Should I build a garage, or a sun room?

You may think this a no-brainer, a garage. And I don’t necessarily disagree, I’d LOVE to have a garage – keep my car in there, all the seasonal items, not to mention hockey gear and even the work bench that I keep in the mud room right now. Wow, with that stuff out of the way I could have a little sitting area basically in the mud room! Fun!! And for resale value, a garage would make a lot more sense as well – so why ask this question?

Well, let me just say that having a sun-room is my idea of the perfect room. I absolutely love them. Lots of sun, plants, light. Liz’s Dad is currently renting a spot in Charlottetown which has a sunroom and man, am I ever jealous. It’s sooo nice. It’s not that large, but you don’t really need it to be. Now I’m not talking about something as expensive as you’d find at the setai new york or anything – I just want to have a sun room. To read in, to have coffee and breakfast in (or any  meal for that matter), to nap in, just to relax in – honestly it would be my favorite room in the house.

Some other advantages in having a sun-room is that I’m not alone in loving them. It adds a lot as well when trying to re-sell a home, to put it simply – I wouldn’t lose any value, that’s for sure. The way my house is laid out, I could actually have something of a storage area below the sunroom as well which may solve both problems… hmmm..

As I say, not something that I’m in the market for just yet – but I’d love to have some opinions out there on the subject.
