No Credit Card Debt? Time To Save More Money..

Wee haw!

So I just got off the phone with Mastercard as I decided that there was really no benefit from me having the fees associated with my card anymore. I was paying $99 a year to have the gold air miles Mastercard, and I was also $35 a year to have the lower interest rate from 19.5% (holy shit!) to (12.9%).

This may seem silly to some as such a small amount ($35) to have a 6.6% difference in interest, [...]

Wish Me Luck – Going To Try Giving Up Coffee..

I post a lot about coffee.. I talk about how profitable it must be (seeing the huge amount of coffee shops around town), I blog about how expensive it is, how I save money by making my own, even talked about how we should stop drinking it and instead save some money and drink beer!

Anyhow today – July 14th, I’m going to try to give up my morning coffee. There are a few reasons that I’m thinking about doing this [...]

Beer For Breakfast …

Wow where does the weekend go? The PEI TweetUp on Friday night, Wine Show Saturday night and Fathers Day on Sunday – I guess that’s where the weekend goes eh? For those of you whom don’t have a clue and are wondering what the hell the PEI TweetUp was.. well, to put it simply – it was a gathering of people from PEI whom use Twitter. And it was a fantastic idea and went off really well I thought.

To [...]

Debt Repayment Update – May 2010

Well not only am I trying to limit the groceries which we purchase and try to spend a lot smarter during the course of a month – as you may know I’m also trying desperately to reduce my debt – this debt being my line of credit, and any credit cards.

My first update was back in June 2009 and at that time I told myself that I was 12.07 months from being out of debt (keep in mind this [...]

75 Ways to Save Money – Every Single Month

I’ve found a great new site with lots of tips and tricks for saving money every month. As frugal as I think I am (not very), frugaldad.com is a GREAT resource and definitely a blog to bookmark or follow in your RSS feeds.

I found a post with 75 tips to save money in a down economy, and there are some which I think I’m going to look more into, such as:

Switch to cloth napkins.
Just say no to social events, or [...]

Tax Refund – What to do with it?

If you’re one of the lucky people whom end up getting a tax refund year after year, I’ve a question for you.. what do you do with it?

I filed my taxes last week via Netfile, and generally the turnaround for the cheque to come in the mail is around 2 weeks (if I remember well). Originally, and up until today.. I was thinking that the best way thing to do would be to put it on my line of credit, [...]

I Made It To Payday! Budget Update for January 2010!

Over two weeks ago, I posted that I was ‘broke’ for two weeks as my paycheck was already spent. Well, I’ve reached payday after those two weeks.. and well, I’m no further ahead. I was hoping that my laptops screen was lying to me, but alas.. it was not this morning when I checked it over my coffee.

Mind you, I’m not in the depressed state of mind I was that fateful Tuesday since I have a little bit more spending [...]

I Haven’t Even Gotten Paid Yet, And I’m Broke For The Next Two Weeks..

Here at work, we get our pay stubs a few days before we actually get paid. It’s kind of nice actually to know what to expect on Friday – even if it is only Tuesday. Today however, I think I’d rather not know.

I just took a peek at my paystub and started deducting the bills that I have to pay for the month.. wow. Talk about a kick in the junk. Good thing we have a lot of leftover food in the [...]

Read Any Good Books Lately? You Know, All These Finance Books Say The Same Thing..

I’m becoming a library junkie, but I’m sort of proud of myself for doing so. Hell, up until a few years ago I barely read anything if it wasn’t on a glossy page with Maxim on the cover. Lately I’ve been picking up a TON of finance books and I have to be honest in saying the best one so far has still been “The Wealthy Barber” in terms of opening my eyes to how to save money and grow [...]
